Keep it Simple Sweetie

DIY at home In order to simplify your life, you have to know where your priorities lie. Simplicity means getting rid of many of the things you do so you can spend time with people you love and do the things you love. It means getting rid of the clutter so you are left with only that which gives you value and guess what…clutter can be ANYTHING that takes up unnecessary space in your life so it’s time to clear up your mind too!

Our favorite de-clutter and place to start when simplifying is NEGATIVITY.  Get rid of it!  Did you know that is the biggest time-waster in our day today?  Whether at work or at home, we typically will dwell or discuss negative circumstances far more than we give praise to the positive.   Think about it – and throw it away!

Here’s another easy fix to time and simplicity; ORGANIZE!  Another fun fact; the average person spends up to 12 days out of the year looking for things they can’t find.  That’s cuckoo if you really think about it!   So start in one end of your home and each drawer, closet, storage space. Not only is this a great time to start throwing things away but as you take account of the things around you occupying space, you will begin to find a purpose for them in your life at that moment or you start to understand that if they do not have a functional role any longer for you, then quite simply – they don’t belong.  Bottom line, if the way things flow around you has a home, has a purpose, and makes sense ultimately for your life and your needs being met as efficiently as possible – then the organization has been met.  If on the other hand, you have to dig constantly when something you finally need but no longer can find is a typical pattern for you…then chaos will not only be what you are searching around in but also will assume your overall wellness.

Experts also put forth several other key areas to concentrate on when it comes to simplifying.

  • Time commitments
  • Deb
  • Possessions.  See organization above because the stuff you possess should benefit you and suffice the order and functionality you need.
  • Goals. Less is more truly applies here because you need to accomplish goals in order to be fulfilled and certainly to even create them in the first place.  Too many goals will have you only start many things en route to achieving but when you are spread too thin, nothing will reach the finish line.
  • Words
  • Artificial Ingredients
  • Screen Time.
  • Connections to the world. Avoid the steady flow of distractions and the steady stream of vertical communications.  Limit your time when it comes to social media and learns when it’s time to power off.
  • Multi-tasking.  Learn to reduce this as you will actually accomplish more when you tackle one task at a time.
