Spiritual Health: What does it mean to you?

It’s one of the wellness components within holistic health and one that often stands alone from the mind and body wellness exercising that many of us subscribe to.  This could simply be because we can talk more freely, share mindful activities and practices in support of therapy, and generally, there are no worries from doing so when we consider inclusivity, cultural differences, and the elephant in many rooms; religion.

But spiritual health is not just a belief in a higher power like God because it goes beyond that. Spiritual wellness is being connected to something greater than yourself and having a set of values, principles, morals, and beliefs that provide a sense of purpose and meaning to life, then using those principles to guide your actions.  How honorable and yet we find (or at least I do) ourselves putting our morals aside, creating values in things that typically our true self never consciously would, swaying perhaps away from our beliefs at times and slipping away from basic principles in order to create harmony and peace with others.

Why do we do this?

Sure we want to balance and structure this through perhaps keeping the peace, going with the flow, and making sure not to go against what our gut or values may be in order to not upset the apple cart.   In retrospect yes, outright opposition to what our moral compass and beliefs in fact are against another person or persons can be a sign of threat while challenging them with your own principles may be received as an insult, threat, or attack.

Spiritual HealthHere’s what to do instead…

“Blessed are the peacemakers”.  Go your own way however that is valued and do it with a humble spirit. One does not have to remark on where another’s problems may lie if they continue to lead by example in a way that positively shines’s sincerely from within.

How else can our spirits shine from within?

Our acts and humble witness of love valued, practiced, and believed from within can enhance, fulfill and guide others in their spiritual wellness journeys because it can be mimicked. Even a random act of kindness given or received is a checkmark in the toolbox of holistic health wellness for which our souls and spirits can be blessed.  Can I get an amen?

Of course, as all things align within and around us, one must be able to accept that without spiritual wellness, the mind and body will never be fulfilled no matter what your physical or mental state may be.

Many behaviors associated with overall wellness are key moving parts within spiritual wellness. Being positive, helpful, optimistic, giving of yourself to society whether it’s through volunteer work or simply connecting with others. Having also a sense of belonging and practicing self-care is also spiritual care because when we lead ourselves compassionately, selflessly, confident but with humility, we are embodying the human beings we were intended to be and our spirit can rejoice from within.  What a genuinely gratifying approach to wellness!  Just be awesome to yourself and others.

By building up each other and extending yourself to a society where and when you can, you are building yourself from within.  Therefore being unappreciated, unrecognized, used, ignored, overworked, judged, and/or humiliated while being the mind, body, and spirit of all attributes we have shared, will hurt ten times more.  It seems abundantly unfair to be let down when you are striving and naturally positive towards others.  It’s a hard slap in the face to feel the negativity of another’s response when it isn’t lateral with your own.

TURN THE OTHER CHEEK.

You may have heard that before and of course, it comes with the emotional dismay that “sucking it up buttercup” often will. However, do not let one frown turn your smiles and care upside down.  Not all situations or people are in a place of acceptance to be able to receive love in the way it’s intended for all to give and receive.  They may not even be reflective of their spiritual unalignment and could be brought on by something blocking their receptors physically, mentally, emotionally, and even intellectually.

Kill them with kindness.

It’s not about holding your head high or “being above them”, it’s about your tools acquired being put to work in all situations good or bad, day after day for YOUR journey.  It helps to know that situations cannot be exactly replicated but our mannerisms can.

Be the change.

Over time, the hurt will lessen from your strength in feeling indifferent to whatever can and for sure will, try us along the way.

I always reflect on this verse as I fail daily but love never does when it checks each of these points.  Reminding myself that I am far from love often but strive to embody these fruits of the spirit.

Love is patient, Love is kind.

It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.

It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs.

Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.

It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.

Love never fails.

Final thought:  practice what you preach (from me to me, LOVE, me)

Just another poke around the health in progress journey through the lessons shared and learned through my hip life monthly.

One Love from your perfectly imperfect sister, friend, student, teacher, and mother to one.
